yes, i suck.

i know,  i know.
lots of goings on around here, though
new job.  i am now a business broker for portland restaurant brokers and consultants.  so there ya go.

our grand opening is tomorrow.  we had the soft opening on the 24th.  it was officially bat-shit-crazy.  the name is report lounge.  our website will be up soon.  we are flying up dj drez from la.(he's the dj for abstract rude and acyelone.  word.)  and then on tuesday, we have the exclusive party for jadakiss.  yes, the jadakiss that was bff with biggie. weird. the boy got a call today from cbs (their radio station.  national.) the bar isn't even open yet.  what's up with that?  well, i know why, but still.

halloween was good.  i was a pirate wench.  we ran out of candy (and we had TONS!) we had to turn off our lights.  eesh.

election night was crazy.  crazy good, but still.  it's very, very nice to live in a blue state (and now a blue country!).  we were at a party in an old-ish movie theatre, with tons of other people, cheering, crying, celebrating.  it was nothing short of amazing.  i'm still reeling.

must go work more.  ugh.  maybe these job things are overrated.

pampered chef- yes. vice-president- absolutely not.

i may start a riot by talking about politics on a mainly art-y blog, but, you know what? i don't give a shit.  the truth is, is that politics matter more than what most people want to admit.  i think sarah palin is probably a fine person.  but totally and wholly unqualified to be vice president.  i'd probably buy some Tupperware, silpada or pampered chef from her, but the sheer thought of her being second  in command to someone who has serious health issues, including but not limited to cancer, makes me cry in my sleep.

her naivety and sheer lack of everything-- real world awareness, foreign policy and national politics experience (sorry, one governor's conference does not count.  i've worked two.  hosted one. one more than the republican vice presidential nominee has.  scary, i know.)

i hope that in this season of craziness that everyone thinks long and hard about whom they cast their ballot for-- because it is important.  really important.

and bingo was their name-o.

i'm soon leaving to go watch the veep debates with some friends.  i personally think it's going to be a bloody slaughter, since biden actually possesses the capacity for cognitive ability and critical thinking.  but, that is just me.
we were talking about doing some sort of drinking game, but this is even more fun--
debate bingo.

and how handy is it that each of the VP candidates have 5 letters in their last names? very.

1) when did brenda walsh become a hockey player?  her teeth look like she's in the middle of playoffs.
2) i was gonna have to smack a bitch if pam hooked up with her classmate.  crisis averted.  for now.
3) i had money riding on the fact that rose was pregnant with derek's child.  instead, she cut him.  i lost money, but that seems fair.
4) greek is not a cinematic masterpiece.  but, like a train wreck, i cannot stop watching.
5) i think #4 is just a carry-over coma from 90210.  because anything is better than the new 90210.  (insert train wreck analogy here as well.)
6) jackass 1 & 2 have been on the movie channels.  granted we own them, so i could watch them at any time, they're just more convenient when they're on 1/4 of the day already.  consequently, they have been on in the background.  and i instinctively throw up a little in my mouth when chris pontius drinks the hot stallion juice. and yes, it's exactly what you think.

how to beg professionally; or

what to do with a political science degree. (or two.)

with all of the impending doom lipstick-gate voting madness coming up, it is hard to not have it permeate a certain degree of one's life.  (not that i object, i think it is great that people are finally paying attention a bit more)
but i live in a progressive city, in a progressive part of town, and it's non-stop canvassing, bantering, tabling and basically every single corner has at least one person armed with a clipboard and an agenda.
i'm always polite, and usually sign/give money/at least respond to them, and i usually end up explaining that 1) i have done what you are doing, i know it's hard  2) i already support the democrats/obama/greenpeace/whatever, both philosophically and financially.

this usually leads to 1) more questions and 2) pleas for more money. 3) advice for them.  always, with the asking for advice!  never have i met a more advice-oriented demographic.
yes, i have canvassed, worked for countless campaigns, the national party, NGO's, the United Nations, PAC's, and been a lobbyist for a university and worked as a policy advisor/legislative analyst.  they end up telling me that they are (usually) sophomores in college, studying political science.  i admit i have a political science degree, too.  actually, two.  bachelor's and master's. (along with some assorted other minors/majors/concentrations)  they ask if i'm using my degree(s) now, and i can see the painfully hopeful look in their eyes, wondering if i am someone important that they can befriend.

i crush their hopes.  i tell them we own businesses.  and i work in real estate.  and that there's not really anything you can do with a fucking master's degree in political science, so save your $75,000+ my friend.

{i am the one 3rd in R to L.   i was 19, working on Max Baucus' (MT-D) campaign for re-election to the US Senate.  the guy in the middle was Terry McAuliffe--he was chairman of the DNC, and on the short-list for VP picks.  he was really inspiring.}

cutesy

i'm not a huge fan of the overly/overtly sweet, twee or pink cute crap.  i like puppies and such, but i'm not one too ooh and ahhh at baby showers.  actually, i think i'm allergic to babies.  something about their soft skin, i start itching like when i sleep in a hotel bed with one of those gross velour blankets.  but, i digress.
and damn of these oregon humane society ads aren't cute.  but, they're cute without being sickeningly sweet.  and the rabbit ears?  genius. cat toupe? ha. poodle topiary?

for reals?!

**SPOILER ALERT** if you are a girl named jamaica, you may want to stop reading. this may or may not show up in the mail soon.
jamaica posted this a while ago, and i thought it was totally hilarious--- i love awards, so why not wear them on your sleeve? (or at least your favorite vest or sash.)
wandering through powell's (i have 2 powell's on my street.  2(!)  i am very lucky.  powell's is our very own huge-ass book mecca.  it is so wonderful.), i found this. these are real?  there were only 2 others left (bad cook and un-handy/not-mechanical) but clearly this was the most funny.   so passive it was.  but, it begs the question-- is being passive worthy of a demerit? apprently, yes.P1030632

can't hardly wait...

ugh, do you remember that awful twee-movie of that same title?  gross.  i'm only title-deep into this blog post and already i am diverging.  doesn't bode well.
i can't wait for this.  seriously.  how long did this take?  don't worry mozilla, i still love you, and it will be a while before there is a mac version, but.... i don't know though if i'm a fan of the name-- chrome.  it kinda sounds like the name of some BMX-rider spawned energy drink that come in flavors like gnar-gnar orange and freshy-fresh pow-pow plumzilla or something.

and finally, amazon.  my wishlist for stuff not just on amazon.  all together.  organized.  alphabatized.  you will see my updated list in my sidebar soon.  picture via lifeClever
